A whole house on the water, with a private pool and direct beach access. Two bedrooms, four people, one booking at a time.
Villa Chimo · Chimo, Cabo Corrientes
Our villa on the beach at Chimo, for four people for now. Getting here is the adventure: you go in through the jungle and come out on the Pacific.
The house
I grew up coming to Chimo. When I could finally build here, I made the house I wanted: the pool cut into the rock, the clay-tile roof, the fireplace outside, and the mountain and the ocean coming in through the same window.
I rent it whole, one booking at a time. The pool, the terrace and the beach in front of it are yours for as long as you stay.

Where you sleep

A whole house on the water, with a private pool and direct beach access. Two bedrooms, four people, one booking at a time.
The night before and the night back. The last boat to Chimo leaves in the afternoon: if you land late, you sleep here and travel in the morning.
How you get here
The last boat leaves in the afternoon. If you land later than that, sleep at Depa Vallarta and travel in the morning. We arrange the boat.
The village
Two hundred and eighty people, a beach that is nearly always empty, and the sound of the boats going out at six in the morning. This place lives on octopus. There is no paved road to the village, and that is why it is still like this.

Experiences
December 8 to March 23
Humpback whales come into Banderas Bay every winter to calve. The season dates are the ones published in Mexico's federal gazette, and operators need a permit and a certification course. We go out with someone who has both.
Year-round
With the people who do it every day. You leave before dawn and come back to eat what you caught. This is what Chimo lives on: octopus and fish are the village economy.
June to October, the rainy months
In the rainy season the waterfalls in the sierra run full and the hills turn green. It is the best time to walk to them, and the cheapest time to come.
The table
The fishermen leave before first light and come back with the day's catch. What reaches the table is up to you.
Included
Included in your stay. We are still refining the menu, so if you have any dietary restriction, tell us and we will sort it out.
On request
Ordered in advance and cooked at the house. Fish and seafood from the day's catch when the sea allows it.
Before you arrive
Send us your list and we shop in Vallarta or El Tuito so you arrive to a full fridge. There is no supermarket in Chimo.

Who it is for
The house rents whole, so it makes no difference whether you are two or four. This is what comes up most among the people who write to us.
Chimo sits between the ocean and the hills, and that is exactly what makes it what it is. It also means insects get in, and now and then a scorpion. The house is treated and checked, but it is a house in the jungle, not a hotel room in a city.
If anyone in your group is allergic to a scorpion sting, tell us when you book. This matters: the village health post keeps emergency injections, but there is rarely a doctor on site, and we would much rather know beforehand than at midnight.
Housekeeping comes on the third day of your stay, without you having to ask. If you stay longer, we repeat it.
The house has security and a backup generator, and it is pet friendly: if you are bringing a dog, tell us the size so we can get everything ready.
Where it is
About 30 kilometres south of Puerto Vallarta along the coast. There is no paved road to the village: you arrive by boat or on the dirt road from El Tuito.
The map comes from Google. It only loads if you ask for it, so no cookies are set without telling you.
